the heady, nostalgic scent of fair food several blocks before you reach the grounds… hours of walking… dirty flip-flop feet… endless crowds of people in all sorts of different moods… that first crunchy bite of a classic pronto pup painted with sweet ketchup and tangy mustard… cold, frosty beer… the midway’s salty, greasy french fries, delighted screams, loud music and colorful rides tipping, dipping and twirling… cinnamon & sugar dusted mini donuts so hot you can barely hold on to the wax paper bag… people watching (and them giving me funny looks when they realize I got them in my photo… hee hee) Andrew Zimmern recommended gyros with a glass of cold white wine… baby animals… the fickle sun peeking out from behind the cloud cover…gossamer cones of cotton candy and deep-fried snickers bars…

The state fair here is lousy! That is one of the things I really miss about the end of Summer in Minnesota. We went one year and it was nothing more than a midwest county fair. We were ready to go after only a couple of hours. Not nearly as many things to look at and the grounds are small.
