Hello Friends!

Halloween is almost upon us! Are you excited? It’s an especially celebrated holiday in our home because it’s also my husband’s birthday. We always get together with friends and family, make a big pot of homemade Skyline Chili, something decadent and chocolate for dessert, take the kiddos trick-or-treating, watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,” and Jeff opens gifts. We’ve had big Halloween parties in the past and hope to again some day when the world is back to “normal.” I guess we’ll see when that happens.

For the time being we’re keeping our gathering quite small, but we’re not letting those traditions go.

This year I made up a batch of this luxurious Pumpkin Spice Brown Sugar Body Scrub for my daughters and grand girls. I thought it would be fun to add it to their Halloween gift bags. It’s so easy to make, and you can pack it into cute little, wide mouth, half pint canning jars as shown. Tie a little raffia or a pretty ribbon around the jar after twisting the cover on tight, add a personalized label if you wish, and voila! A great gift!

Note: If you make this with coconut oil it will harden a bit and turn white when it goes back to room temperature. It still works great, but it looks slightly better when you use the olive oil, in my opinion. Also, you can use brown or white sugar for this recipe.

~ Makes 4 (1/2 pint) jars of body scrub ~

4 cups brown or white sugar

2 cups coconut oil or lite olive oil

2 Tablespoons pumpkin spice

If using coconut oil, place it in a microwave safe bowl and heat for approximately one minute (or just until melted.) Mix oil with sugar and pumpkin pie spice. Pack into jars. Decorate jars however you like.

To use the scrub: Just bring the jar of scrub in the shower or tub with you. Scoop out a handful of the scrub and gently rub all over wet body for a beautiful, exfoliating, softening home “spa” experience.

Enjoy!
