sewing lessons ~ gracie’s gingham strawberry purse
Gracie has expressed an interest in sewing! I’m so excited for her. We’ve decided to make her sewing lessons one of our summer projects. Today she learned the basics: cutting, pressing, pinning, how to work the sewing machine, and sewing a straight seam. She said several times during the process that she was having lots of fun, which is really the important part of being creative in my opinion. If you’re not having fun, what’s the point? She’s anxious to take a trip to the fabric store so she can buy patterns and fabric for shorts, skirts, shirts and dresses. What a fun adventure this will be!
Beautiful job Gracie!

Great idea! I wish I had learned to sew at that age. The bag is fantastic.
Thanks Mary! She’s an enthusiastic and fast learner. This is going to be really fun.
Hi Mary! Thank you for the complement! I had tons of fun making it! 🙂
Is that a glass of wine behind her?? Teaching her everything you know, huh? Hee Hee Seriously, sewing is one of my favorite memories of things I learned as a child. When the house is done I plan to drag my machine and projects out again. LOVE the bag she made!!
LOL! No, that’s a candle. Thanks for commenting Kimber.
Thanks Kimber! 🙂
I just arrived at the blog and Kimber already mentioned the glass of wine and wonder the same? And I look close and see it’s a candle, but you already mentioned that too. Like the bag and the fact that Gracie has found a common interest with mom. <3
yeah. it’s a candle. we’re having so much fun. I wonder where I would be without my daughters to ground me. 🙂
Melissa and Grace, just found you and so glad I did! I have two daughters also and we love doing projects together, I can’t wait for them to get home from school so I can show them your site. Grace, you’re bag is perfect, can’t wait to see what you make next!
Hello Joan!
Thanks so much for the sweet note. I will definitely pass the compliment on to Gracie. 😉
I look forward to visiting your blog, and to future correspondence about craft projects.
Best,
Melissa
