This cocktail is sweet and spicy! We love the depth of flavor that comes from “burning” the honey before we turn it into simple syrup and mix it into our lemony bourbon sour. It’s SO good.

Ever been stung by a bee? This is just as exciting and way more fun. The “sting” comes from adding a heaping teaspoon of cayenne to the honey. Oh yes, we did.

for one cocktail:

2 and 1/2 oz. bourbon (We like Booker’s)

1 and 1/2 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice

2 oz. burnt honey simple syrup (recipe below)

lemon peel

Place all ingredients in a drink shaker with a handful of ice. Fill a rocks glass with ice and strain contents of drink shaker into glass. Garnish each glass with 3 little strips of lemon peel to suggest the yellow stripes on a bee.

for the burnt honey cayenne simple syrup:

1/2 cup raw wildflower or clover honey

1 heaping teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/3 cup water

Heat honey and cayenne pepper in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently. Once simmering, turn to low and cook for 3 minutes or until deep golden brown. Whisk in the water. Cool completely. This syrup will keep in refrigerator, covered, for 1 month.

Cheers!
