A long gorgeous day to myself. I accomplished so much without trying to. You know those days when everything just falls into place? Today was one of those days for me. I drank a big pot of white peony tea and ate this for breakfast while standing on the back porch barefooted, listening to a half dozen different types of birds in the oak tree. I rewatched a few episodes of Downton Abbey and paid particular attention to the food. I’m dreaming up a Downton tea. Wouldn’t it be wonderful? It’s still in the planning stages, but I’ll keep you posted.
Did a lot of watercoloring and illustrating today…and took a little break to go get sesame chicken, lo mein, Szechuan green beans and eggrolls with Andie and Maddie.
I’m rereading all of Neruda and Mary Oliver. I especially like Odes to Common Things (Neruda). and Sleeping In the Forest by Mary Oliver is quite possibly the best thing I have ever read, ever. It captures this season so beautifully. It makes me want to go camping in a damp, mossy forest and do leaf rubbings with crayons.
I’ve been daydreaming about our little house make over (which really isn’t so little) but we’re going to do the whole project in bite size pieces, which makes it much more fun, and manageable and easier to wrap our minds around. But, it’s all going to start with white paint…as most magical things do. I have a little row of seashells on my desk that I’m going to refer to for wall colors. How’s that for beachy? Mostly we really enjoy the Rachel Ashwell “Shabby Chic” style…so I’m sure we’ll be referring to her books too.
I’m currently craving this, this and this….and will most likely be making the latter for dinner.
On that note…
I hope you had a lovely day…the kind that makes you feel that everything is right with the world.
Love,
~Melissa
