scenes from a girlfriends’ weekend
I just returned home from the best weekend ever! I got to spend time with by BFF Jana. What a fun, relaxing couple of days. Thanks Jana! I thought I’d share our adventure with you and include some restaurant reviews, wine tasting notes and movie reviews while I’m at it.
Yesterday I arrived just in time for an early lunch and Jana had a table full of some of our favorite things…brie with honey and baguette, endive leaves spread with a wonderful, creamy bleu cheese, pita, Holy Land hummus (which is knock-your-socks-off yummy….LOVE the garlic!)…fresh veggies and veggie dip. We chatted…sipped THIS WINE and laughed our heads off while watching THIS MOVIE. Can I just say, some of the best vino…and one of the funniest movies on the planet.
After lunch we hit IKEA! Got some more fabulous stuff. Love that store SO much.
For dinner we went to a fabulous little burger bar called Burger Jones. Pretty darn good burgers. Jana had the bison, and I had the bacon cheese with EVERYTHING…inclucing these super yummy caramelized onions. And the maple sweet potato fries? Come ON! So good. I would give these gourmet burgers a 4 out of 5 stars.
After stuffing ourselves, we headed to the Roy Wilkins Auditorium to see the AMAZING Minnesota Roller Girls! I have found my new favorite spectator sport. This is totally punk rock. Get tickets and go. Not kidding. fabulous.
We went back to Jana’s and did some knitting, sipped some yummy mint green tea, and watched THIS MOVIE. What a ride. This is quite possibly the most insane movie I have ever seen ever. Put on your seatbelt and have a couple cocktails before viewing.
This morning my sweet Jana treated me to a great breakfast at the little restaurant with a huge rep for being awesome. The Colossal Cafe. We shared the banana flip and the strawberry flip…and we each had one of the breakfast biscuit sandwiches. Jana: cheddar bacon…Melissa: sausage provolone. OH. MY. YUM! What an experience. This itty bitty restaurant has stolen my heart. I cant wait to try their brie, apple walnut “flappers” and bleu cheese, spinach and scallion savory scones. mmmmmm!
More than all of the fun new experiences, I SOOOOOO enjoyed seeing Jana and spending some quality girl time! Love you sista’!
What did you do this weekend?
~Melissa
Sounds like a wonderful weekend Melissa and Bridesmaids was very funny! Glad you had a great time.
thanks Carrie! it was so fun and relaxing. just what the doctor ordered 🙂
That is, without a doubt, MY KIND OF WEEKEND!!
What fun you had!!
It was so fun! thanks for commenting! xoxo
I read a book in-between laundry loads and tried to sleep, and when I couldn’t, I played computer games. I haven’t had carbs since January 2 (except for 2 bites of rice a couple weeks ago), I haven’t had booze since New Year’s Eve, and I haven’t had a cigarette since January 10th, so I was pretty much wishing I was dead. LOL That aside, it sounds like you had an awesome weekend, and I will live vicariously through your wonderful photographs and descriptions. Thank you for always making every day beautiful and sharing it with us. You’re a gift. Love you!
Hello Dana! I am so proud of you! wow. I don’t think I could do it. You’re stronger than me, my friend. I’ve been cutting down on carbs and (the vino)…but it’s hard work! I wish my comfortable (bad) habits were good for me. I must say, the healthier eating and less alcohol combined with an actual workout program is making a difference though. As much as I hate to admit it 🙂
xoxo. I love you too! let’s make another tea date!
