2 Great Movies That You May Have Missed
Lars and the Real Girl
“Lars and the Real Girl is a sweet, slightly off-centre comedy following timid Lars Lindstrom (Ryan Gosling), a lovable introvert living in a garage apartment next to his older brother, Gus (Paul Schneider), and sister-in-law Karen (Emily Mortimer). Lars is sleep-walking through life until a new friend comes to visit. Bianca is a stunning, half-Brazilian, half-Danish religious missionary. The trouble is that Bianca isn’t a real girl at all, but an inanimate replacement, a lifeless replica of a woman ordered online from a company called Real Girl. Everyone knows why a man orders a doll like Bianca, but to Lars, who actually believes she is a living human being, she becomes a source of emotional support. Taking the advice of the local psychologist (Patricia Clarkson), his family reluctantly agrees to play along with Lars’ delusion, as he begins to deal with his personal problems.”
Starring: Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider, Kelli Garner and Patricia Clarkson

Stranger Than Fiction
“Everybody knows that your life is a story. But what if a story was your life? Harold Crick is your average IRS agent: monotonous, boring, and repetitive. One day this all changes when Harold begins to hear a voice inside his head narrating his life. The narration is extraordinarily accurate, and Harold recognizes the voice as an esteemed author he saw on TV. When the narration reveals that he is going to die, Harold must find the author of the story, and ultimately his life, to convince her to change the ending before it’s too late.”

I LOVED these movies. I hope you do too,

I love Ryan Gosling, so will check it out. I’ve seen Stranger Than Fiction but admit I didn’t care for it. I’m not fond of Will Ferrill, so usually avoid his movies, but had hoped this one with it’s more serious tones would impress me more. I liked the story, but he ruined it for me.
You don’t like Will Farrell? Say it isn’t so! LOL 🙂 I love him. But I know what you mean about actors that rub the wrong way…for me this would be Joe Pesci and most of Jim Carrey’s stuff. (Except “Yes Man” which I thought was fantastic…probably because goofy Jim was tempered by the lovely and always perfect Zooey Deschenel)
I like Will Farrell, Jim Carrey is okay. I liked Jim in “The Mask”. I LOVED “Stranger Than Fiction”! I don’t want to see the first one. I didn’t see “Yes Man”, but Zooey Deschenel is a great talent, she is awesome actress in everything she does. She makes a good movie into a GREAT movie.

Will Ferrell is one of the funniest men alive 🙂 I agree with your take on Jim C. Not my favorite, but I have to say, he was at his very best in “Yes Man.” the perfect balance of funny and quirky without being over the top (goofy) like he has been known to be. Zooey totally makes the film awesome. She is one of my favorites. Have you seen her in 500 Days of Summer? OVER THE TOP awesome! xo
Agreed – Jim Carrey is another one I avoid, but loved Yes Man as well. I also liked Liar Liar, but think it’s because it showed him more serious as well as amusing, without the usual nasty body humor bits.
Are these part of your Day Zero “watch a movie from every letter of the alphabet” goal?
Rachel~I can’t count these movies because I saw them before the “Day Dero” project began…I will be doing a day zero update soon. I worked toward one of the goals today. I went to my friend’s quilting studio to lay out two of the 3 quilts I started 🙂
