winter : king of intimate delights

“O Winter! ruler of the inverted year, . . . I crown thee king of intimate delights, Fireside enjoyments, home-born happiness, And all the comforts that the lowly roof Of undisturb’d Retirement, and the hours Of long uninterrupted evening, know.” ~William Cowper

Today my daughter Andrea and my grandgirl, Maddie May, came over for tea. We spent a couple hours talking and playing (and trying to watch a movie, but Madeline wouldn’t have that…) They went home so Maddie could take a nap…Jeff and Gracie went into Minneapolis on a photography mission…and I found a few undisturbed hours to cook, write, plan this week’s menu, listen to THIS, have tea in front of the fireplace with my Mary Jane’s Farm and Victoria magazines, plan two Thanksgiving menus and take a little walk in the snow. I love days like today. Days when I can just be.

What have you been up to?

~Melissa

  1. Oh, I love winter so much – food and spices, smells, warm fires, family and happiness, snow and more food… Still a little while yet before I’ll be able to be in the “festive mood”, since we don’t celebrate thanksgiving or anything like that here. Hopefully this time next month I’ll be super seasonable and wearing my santa hat!

    1. Winter is a great season. I like it in November and December…it just seems to want to linger here in MN until April and sometimes even May. 😉

Can’t wait to see your hat!

  2. I love your photos!! Truly brings to life all the things you experience and see, and allows us to share it with you. LOve the weekly menu! Do you stick to it? I have the hardest time making menus because I end up making what I crave instead of what I planned. 😉

    1. I appreciate the compliments 🙂 I’m becoming more and more critical regarding the photography…these are nice snapshots though. I stick to the weekly menu somewhat…I make what I say I’m going to make…but not necessarily on the day I say I’m going to make it 🙂 xoxo
