beach house bath mat

“You never know how many friends you have until you rent a house on the beach” ~ Anonymous
After seeing a bath mat that my friend Mary Parks knitted, I decided our clawfoot tub needed a little embellishing. She used a fancier pattern than mine, which I love when a piece is knitted in one color. Thanks for the idea Mary!
While I was knitting this Jeff said the colors look “beachy.” Thus the title. I wish I had actually knitted this for our beach house, but we don’t have one yet 😉 This doesn’t stop me from playing cds of ocean sounds and using my “sea minerals” bubble bath and pretending the ocean is just outside my door.
If you’d like to make this generously-sized bath mat you’ll need the following materials:
a set of size 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needles (Boye knitting needles are my favorite!)
skeins of Peaches and Creme 100% cotton yarn in the following colors (left to right):
lavender, light blue, sea mist, hot green, hot blue and potpourri
cast on 90 stitches, and using one ball of each color (and 1/4 ball of the lavender) straight knit the entire piece.
Have fun!

What fun!!! Those colors are definitely beachy – love it!
Thanks Kimber! If you want to start knitting, this would be a good introduction.
Oh my goodness! I love this. Never even thought of making a bath mat. What a great idea. I need to get my needles out and brush up on my beginner knitting. Thanks for sharing it with us.
