I don’t usually share tips and “hacks” here on ChinDeep, but this worked so splendidly that I just had to share it with you.

It was one of those days that I had done a ton of cooking and had dirty dishes on every available surface in our kitchen. The sink was full too. When I went to the cupboard where I keep my dishwasher detergent tabs, I realized the box was empty. I was out of dish detergent. What to do? I Googled it, of course. I found a bunch of sites with general descriptions on how you can use regular dish detergent and baking soda. I was a little scared. Have you ever tried using regular dish soap in your dishwasher? I have, and I ended up with a kitchen full of foamy suds. But, according to these posts, lots of people had tried this with excellent results. The difference here is using baking soda along with the soap. Don’t forget this vital ingredient. The baking soda is what keeps the suds at bay.

Here’s what I did, and it worked awesome! In the future I will do this whenever I run out of dishwasher detergent!

In the little well where you usually put your dishwasher detergent/tab, pour:

 2 Tablespoons baking soda

1 teaspoon liquid dish soap (such as Dawn)

Run dishwasher as you normally would.

Easy peasy!

You’re welcome 😉
