When I was little I loved spending weekends at my grandma and grandpa’s house. One of my fondest memories is hanging out with them in the evenings and watching Lawrence Whelk on their big console TV. We ate giant bowls of ice cream. Real ice cream. Not the low fat stuff.

As I’ve gotten older I associate ice cream with these happy memories, and we all know the potential dangers of having emotional ties to food.

In my early 20s I would have a cup of frozen yogurt in the evening while watching my favorite shows. (A slightly better habit than the ice cream, but still… LOTS of sugar.)

Since then I’ve almost completely broken the ice cream habit, but every once in awhile, when the mood strikes, I’ll make myself a smoothie instead. It’s surprising how well they calm my ice cream craving, and they’re SO much healthier! Try it and see!

PS… if you don’t enjoy blueberries you could try: Peaches & Cream, Raspberry Kiss, Rise-n-Shine, Chocolate-Banana-Peanut Butter, Clementine-Strawberry, Cinnamon Oatmeal, Pumpkin Spice, Banana-Honey, or Mango Strawberry Lassi with Rosewater.

for one big smoothie:

1 cup vanilla greek yogurt

1 cup sparkling juice (any type…this time I used Welch’s grape-blueberry)

1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

Place everything in the bowl of a blender and pulse until smooth. Add a little more juice if needed.

Enjoy!
